West End urban renewal plan public hearing is held.
May 14, 1953
More than 100 residents attend the Boston City Council hearing in City Hall. In what is described as “one of the stormiest scenes in recent City Hall history,” the West Enders object to the plan and the fact that only one city councilor, Gabriel Piemonte, chooses to attend the hearing. Piemonte suggests that another hearing be held in the community at the Blackstone School.
